For over 37 years, Hopelink has served homeless and low income families, children, seniors and people with disabilities. Hopelink's mission is to promote self-sufficiency for all members of our community; we help people make lasting change.
Hopelink operates Dial-a-Ride Transit (DART) under a contract with King County Metro. DART offers variable routing in some areas within King County. It operates on a fixed schedule, but one that has more flexibility than regular Metro Transit buses.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Provides safe, courteous and on-time transportation to customer in vans, minibuses or small buses; adheres to traffic regulations.
- Communicates and interacts with individuals of various backgrounds and abilities; communicates with dispatchers by radio and provides verbal and written reports.
- Assists and secures passengers; provides special assistance as needed, such as opening doors, operating wheelchair lift, escorting to buildings and the like.
- Maintains schedules on regular or special routes; collects fares, issues transfers; provides verbal information to the public regarding routes, schedules and transfer points; determines safest and most efficient routes to specific address.
- Inspects vehicle before and after operation; cleans vehicle interior and exterior as needed; fuels and performs minor maintenance on vehicle.
- Maintains punctuality and regular attendance in order to provide dependable service to the public.
Qualifications*:
- Safe and effective vehicle operation; standards and requirements related to paratransit services; transportation problems related to elderly and disable persons; county streets, roads, and geographic locations.
- Communicate effectively and establish effective working relationships with passengers and other employees using tact, courtesy, and good judgment; apply standards and requirements to particular situations and circumstances; provide appropriate transportation assistance to the elderly and disabled; physically perform the essential functions of the position.
- High School diploma, or G.E.D., and 7 (Seven) years driving experience carrying passengers; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and ability required to perform the work.
Licenses, certificates, & other requirements:
- Valid Washington State Class B or C CDL with passenger endorsement preferred. However, Hopelink will train acceptable candidates for the CDL license.
- Completion of defensive driving and passenger assistance training. As a safety-sensitive position, all drivers are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
- Criminal background check clearance through Washington State Patrol.
