Employment Program Builds Confidence Along with Job-Search Tools
Being laid off after five years as a project coordinator didn’t keep Mary down for long. Rather than dwell on the past, she picked herself up and found her way into Hopelink’s Employment Program to begin planning her future.
Mary got right to work updating her resume, developing a cover letter and preparing for interviews as the program also helped her with job search and networking skills. Mary also registered for a Prolango Career Mixer to network with Eastside employers, where she was able to make new connections and gain confidence for her job search.
Mary’s job developer also referred her to Hopelink’s computer and financial literacy classes to help her fine tune her skills, and she soon received Hopelink certificates of completion for Microsoft Word and financial literacy classes.
Hard work and perseverance put Mary in just the right place for the next turn of events. Hopelink’s Financial Literacy Coordinator was able to connect her with Banner Bank to open a new account, and through a bank employee, Mary discovered that a naturopathic clinic in Seattle was looking for a part-time office manager.
Mary told the Banner Bank employee she was interested in the position and within moments, the bank employee contacted the clinic and Mary was scheduled for an in-person interview. A few hours later, the clinic called to offer her the job. Since then, Mary’s hours have increased and she is continuing to work with the employment program toward finishing her college degree and obtaining her long-term career goals.
Hopelink depends on donations to help tens of thousand of clients like Mary every year. If you would like to help DONATE NOW.
