The Puget Sound Area, along with many other communities nationwide, currently faces a hunger crisis. Over the last few months King County food banks have reported a 20% increase in demand – unusual for this time of year. And they are seeing new faces, many of them families that had considered themselves middle class until recent price increases in food and fuel pushed them over the edge and outside their budgets. In response to this crisis, United Way of King County and community partners will convene a community-wide discussion on Thursday, July 24.

The purpose of the meeting is to bring together community leaders within the health and human services field, local businesses and funders, to map out a coordinated immediate response strategy to the hunger crisis and to lay the groundwork for long-term strategies to increase food security in our region. The meeting is open to the public.

Please RSVP to communityservices@uwkc.org or contact Lauren McGowan, 206-461-6973 with questions.
