Kent, Wash., June 23, 2005 – Hopelink, the largest human-services agency on the Eastside, serving homeless and low-income families in east and north King County, will be the recipient of a large food donation from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints' "Feed the Five Thousand" project.
More than 50 volunteers and church members will pitch in to help work at a corn canning event, on Saturday, June 25, 2005 for "Feed the Five Thousand". Some elected officials will be attending the event and rolling up their sleeves to help with the canning of more than 9,000 cans of corn beginning at 9:30 am this Saturday, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Cannery in Kent, located at 1412 West Morton Street.

Those attending will include Ross Hunter, 48th District Representative; Toby Nixon, District Representative; Jeffrey Possinger, Mayor of Duvall; Gerald Cattin, Duvall City Councilman; and Don Gerend, Mayor of Sammamish.

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints church members from the cities of Redmond, Carnation, Duvall and Sammamish are sponsoring the "Feed the Five Thousand" project to help in the fight against hunger and poverty. In addition to the large donation of corn, over 3,000 pounds of other food has been collected over the past three weeks. All of the food from this donation will be distributed to hungry families visiting Hopelink’s food banks in Redmond and Carnation.

"This generous food donation will go a long way in helping Hopelink provide healthy food to the homeless and low-income families who are hungry in our community," said Doreen Marchione, executive director for Hopelink.
