On-Going Volunteer Opportunities
Please review the following overview of on-going volunteer opportunities at Hopelink. Opportunities are available in the following areas: Administration and Development, Family and Emergency Services, Adult Education, Housing and Child Development, and Leadership. Clerical/Receptionist—Help with clerical and front desk duties, which may include answering phones, filing, making copies, etc. Daytime and evening hours. A minimum six-month commitment is required.
Mailing/Project—Assist staff with mass mailings and other projects as assigned. Daytime "on-call" hours. A minimum three-month commitment is required.
Data Entry—Help staff with data entry into database. Flexible daytime hours. A minimum three-month commitment is required.
Front Desk Receptionist-We are looking for a volunteer to answer phones and greet walk-in visitors at our Redmond Center on Thursday afternoons for 4 to 5 hours. If you are interested, please, contact the volunteer coordinator at volunteer@hope-link.org (Current Need)
Events Planning Committee—Support the Development team in planning and carrying out fund-raising events such as the annual luncheon, Turkey Trot, and other special events. Committees meet once or twice a month, usually in the late afternoon. No minimum time commitment.
Day-of-Events—Help set up, carry out, and clean up after each of Hopelink’s special fund-raising events. Events take place during daytime and evening hours. No minimum time commitment.
Community Outreach—Speak on behalf of Hopelink at community outreach events throughout the year. Answer questions and provide general information about Hopelink to the general public. No minimum time commitment.

Sorting and Prepping—Help sort food donations and assist in food bank organization and distribution prep. 2-4 hours/week. Daytime hours. (Current Need)

Volunteers must have a valid WA State driver’s license, auto insurance, a vehicle that will accommodate large amounts of food donations, and be able to lift 20 pounds or more. Home Delivery Drivers—Deliver food to homebound clients who are unable attend food bank. Volunteers must have a valid WA State driver’s license and auto insurance. Daytime hours. 1-2 hours/week. (Current Need)
Grocery Store Food Pick-up Drivers—We are looking for volunteers to pick donated food up from various stores in Bellevue, Kirkland or Redmond and deliver it to our food banks. The pick-ups are in the morning and a vehicle large enough to accommodate items is necessary. This will take 1 to 2 hours a week. Special Events—Special events take place in Hopelink Food Banks throughout the year including School Supply Distribution, Holiday Gift Program, Food Drives and other events. No minimum time commitment.
Translator/Interpreter—Translate with fluency in any language as needed, especially Spanish and Russian. Volunteers may be asked to translate written materials, as well as interpret at food banks, workshops, classes or job fairs. Daytime and evening hours. No minimum time commitment.

All positions require an orientation, successful screening interview, training and commitment of two-four hours a week, days or evenings. Length of commitment varies.
Basic Literacy Tutor—Meet twice weekly with an adult literacy student to teach reading, writing or GED preparation. A minimum one-year commitment is required. (Current Need)
ESL Class Teacher/Facilitator/Assistant—Meet weekly with small groups of adults to teach basic English, practice conversation and civics, or prepare for citizenship. A minimum one-year commitment is required. (Current Need)
Money Management—Facilitate small group classes on topics related to banking, budgeting, and credit management. A minimum one-year commitment is required. Must have banking or related experience. (Current Need)
Cooking—Teach small groups of adults basic cooking and nutrition skills including meal planning, cooking on a budget, making nutritious meals with what’s on hand. A minimum one-year commitment is required.
Computer Tutor—Tutor students one-on-one in computer skills, (may include: Microsoft Office applications, online job searching, or resume writing. A minimum of six months is required. Daytime and evening hours. (Current Need)
Computer Class Teacher/Assistant—Meet weekly with small groups of adults to teach beginning computer skills—keyboarding, Windows, the Internet, and Microsoft Office programs. A minimum one-year commitment is required. (Current Need)
Student Outreach—Help spread the word about the services of Hopelink’s Adult Education Department. No minimum time commitment.

Childcare Assistant—Assist our teachers in carrying out classroom activities with children. Volunteers may also supervise activities for children while their parents access services at Hopelink. Childcare volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and pass a TB test. Average commitment depends upon volunteer. Day and evening hours. A minimum three-month commitment is required. After-School Tutor—Help school-aged children with homework, participate in positive playtime, and act as role models. Tutors must be at least 16 years of age. Afternoon and evening hours. A minimum six-month commitment is required.
"Adopt an Apartment" Volunteer—Prepare a Hopelink transitional housing apartment unit for a homeless family to occupy. Responsibilities include locating household items and furniture that will help the family regain a sense of stability. The average time commitment varies; most volunteers are asked to adopt 1-2 apartments a year.
Lawn Care & Maintenance—Maintain Hopelink’s facilities. Groups and individual volunteers complete projects. Daytime, evening, and weekend hours. No minimum time commitment.
Moving Assistance—Assist families moving out of Transitional Housing into their Permanent Housing. Volunteers must have a valid WA State driver’s license, auto insurance, a vehicle that will accommodate large items, or be willing to provide a vehicle for the family. Daytime, evening, and weekend "on-call" hours. No minimum time commitment.

Board of Directors—An elected group of volunteers that meets on a monthly basis, assisting in decisions, providing guidance to the agency, and serving as an advocate for the agency.
Executive Leadership Council—Strengthen Hopelink’s mission by providing professional support, skillful expertise, and high-level advice to the agency’s executive staff. Involvement and commitment levels are variable. Learn more about the Executive Leadership Council.
